Best Christmas Gifts for Gardening Lovers

A young tomato plant standing in its whole root ball beside the yellow seed cup it grew in

Buying for a gardener is easy once you know what they grow. Buying for one who already owns a trowel, three pairs of gloves and a shed full of pots takes a little more thought.

This list covers ten gifts at three price levels, from a packet of seeds for a stocking to a gift that fills a whole season. Six come from other makers whose products gardeners rate highly. Four are ours, and we say so next to each one. For the others, we opened every product page in October 2026 and noted the price, the maker and the star rating shown there. Prices and ratings change, so treat them as a guide, not a promise.

Stocking stuffers under $20

1. Sun Gold Pole Cherry Tomato Seeds, Botanical Interests

Who it is for: anyone who grows tomatoes, or wants to start.

A packet of seeds is the smallest gift on this list and one of the most used. Sun Gold is a cherry tomato with tangerine-colored fruit that the seed company describes as very sweet and juicy. The packet holds about 10 seeds of a hybrid variety. The vines easily reach 6 feet, so it suits a gardener with a stake, a cage or a trellis ready.

Price: about $6 a packet (October 2026).
Rating: 4.7 out of 5 from more than 100 reviews at Botanical Interests (October 2026).

2. Plant Training Clips, 20 pack (ours)

Who it is for: the gardener whose tomato, pepper or cucumber plants get crowded and heavy by midsummer, and houseplant growers with climbers to steer.

These clips hold a branch open at a wide angle in one squeeze. The rounded 110-degree bend holds the branch without kinking it, and two clips interlock for a 180-degree turn. They fit stems up to 3/8 inch thick and go on and off in seconds. They wash clean and go back in the drawer for next season. A 20 pack suits one or two large plants; a 40 pack ($28.99) suits three or four.

Price: $15.99 for 20, in yellow or black.

3. Gorilla Tub, 7 gallon, Red Gorilla

Who it is for: every gardener. Nobody ever has enough things to carry stuff in.

A flexible, two-handled tub made of lightweight polyethylene. It bends, squashes and rinses clean. The 7 gallon size is handy for picking apples, collecting pulled weeds and holding groceries in the car. It comes in several bright colors, which also makes it hard to lose in the garden. The maker, Red Gorilla (formerly Faulks and Co), first made these tubs in 1998.

Gifts from $20 to $50

4. Mod Hod, Gardener's Supply Company

Who it is for: the vegetable gardener who brings in beans, carrots and greens by the armful.

A modern take on the traditional harvesting hod. The smooth, perforated basket lets you rinse vegetables outdoors, which keeps the kitchen clean, and fold-out legs keep it off the ground while it drips dry. Up to three stack for storage. It is just as useful at the farmers market or for tidying the garage.

Price: about $30 (October 2026).
Rating: 4.9 out of 5 from more than 300 reviews at Gardener's Supply Company (October 2026).

5. Gardener's Gift Set (ours)

Who it is for: the gardener who ties, props and patches all season.

The three small things every gardener runs out of, in one box: a 20 pack of yellow plant training clips, a 50 ft coil of yellow soft garden wire, and a 90 ft roll of yellow branch repair and grafting tape.

  • Soft garden wire: a stainless steel core under a soft rubber coat. It holds the bend and spares the stem. Cut it to length; one coil makes about 100 ties of a few inches. Ties tomatoes to a stake, climbers to a moss pole, roses to a trellis.
  • Grafting tape: sticks to itself, not to the stem, with no glue. Wrap a snapped branch or a graft and let it heal. It tears by hand.
  • Clips: the same 20 pack as pick 2.

Price: $33.99, less than the three parts bought separately ($37.97).

6. Deluxe Stainless Steel Soil Knife, A.M. Leonard

Who it is for: the gardener who digs, divides perennials and plants bulbs, and could use one tool in place of three.

Gardeners call this style of tool a soil knife or hori-hori. A.M. Leonard's has a 6 inch stainless steel blade with a serrated edge, a notch for cutting twine and depth markings etched on the blade, so bulbs go in at the right depth. It plants, digs, slices through roots and divides clumps.

Price: about $32 (October 2026).
Rating: shown as 5 out of 5 (rounded) from more than 300 reviews at A.M. Leonard (October 2026).

7. Seed to Pot Set (ours)

Who it is for: the gardener who starts tomatoes, peppers, herbs and flowers from seed every spring.

Start them, then move them up. The set holds five 16 oz seed starting cups with push-out bottoms and the five 1 gallon fabric grow bags they go into next. When a seedling is ready, push the plate up from below and the root ball comes out whole. The grow bags have a steel rim that keeps them open while you fill, plant and water, plus handles for moving them. Cups and bags are washable and reusable, and the cups are dishwasher safe.

Gifts $50 and up

8. Deep Seat Garden Kneeler, Gardener's Supply Company

Who it is for: the gardener who spends long afternoons weeding beds and would rather not kneel on bare ground.

A kneeler with extra-thick padding and sturdy sides that lock in place, so you can lower and raise yourself with something to hold. Flip it over and it becomes a padded bench. It weighs 9 pounds, holds up to 250 pounds, and the sides fold in for storage. When we checked, the purple version was in stock and other colors were sold out, so look at the page before you plan around a color.

Price: about $70 (October 2026).
Rating: 4.7 out of 5 from more than 2,100 reviews at Gardener's Supply Company (October 2026).

9. Grow Your Own Gift Set (ours)

Who it is for: someone who wants to grow their own food next year, or a gardener who starts from seed and wants everything in one box.

Everything to start five plants from seed, grow them on in full-size bags, tie them to a support and fix a snapped stem: five 16 oz seed starting cups with push-out bottoms, five 5 gallon fabric grow bags, a 50 ft coil of yellow soft garden wire and a 90 ft roll of branch repair and grafting tape, plus a free 20 pack of plant training clips. We also email a printable gift card the minute you order and a first season guide for the gardener. Seeds and potting mix are not included, so a packet of their favorite seeds (pick 1 works) makes it complete.

10. Gardener's Puddle-Proof Tote, Gardener's Supply Company

Who it is for: the gardener who walks back to the shed three times an hour for the trowel they just put down.

A grab-and-go tool bag with three pockets on each side, each with an elastic cord to hold a tool in place, mesh pockets on both ends big enough for a water bottle, one large compartment inside, and an inside pocket with a hook-and-loop closure. It comes in khaki green or teal.

Price: about $70 (October 2026).
Rating: 4.8 out of 5 from more than 100 reviews at Gardener's Supply Company (October 2026).

How to choose a gift for a gardener

  • Look at what they grow. Tomatoes and peppers point to seeds, clips and wire. Perennial beds and bulbs point to a soil knife. A sunny windowsill in March points to seed cups.
  • Pick something they use up or lose. Ties, tape, seeds and tubs run out or wander off, so a fresh supply is always welcome.
  • Think about the season. A gift opened in December mostly gets used in spring, so seed starting gear arrives in good time for the first sowings of the year.
  • Comfort counts. If they garden for hours at a time, a kneeler or a tool tote changes a whole afternoon.
  • Match the budget to the gardener. A new gardener gets more from a set that covers several jobs. An experienced one may prefer one good tool.

If they start from seed, our guides on how to use seed starting cups and how to use fabric grow bags make a good companion to the gift, and how to use plant training clips covers the clips.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need to order for Christmas?

For our products, order by Tuesday, December 8, 2026 for Christmas delivery with standard shipping, to all 50 US states. After that date we cannot promise Christmas delivery. For gifts from other stores, check with that store.

Can I send a gift straight to the gardener?

Yes. At checkout, enter the gardener's address as the shipping address.

Which of your gifts ship free?

The Grow Your Own Gift Set ships free in the US on its own. Any US order of $60 or more ships free, so a Gardener's Gift Set and a Seed to Pot Set together ship free.

What is a good gardening gift under $20?

Seeds of a favorite vegetable, a pack of plant training clips or a flexible tub. All three get used, and none of them needs to match anything else the gardener owns.

Why are there no star ratings next to your own products?

The ratings in this guide come from the makers' and retailers' own product pages, and we chose not to rate our own products in our own gift guide.

What if the gift is not quite right?

Our products come with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 12-month warranty, and orders placed from October 12 to December 24, 2026 can be returned until January 31, 2027. Email us with the order number and we will send return instructions. For gifts from other stores, their own return policies apply.

How we chose these picks

We looked for gifts a gardener will use every season, at a spread of prices, from makers known for gardening tools and seeds. For every product from another maker, we opened its page on October 11, 2026 and checked the exact product name, the maker, the price, and the average star rating and number of reviews shown on the maker's own site or at Gardener's Supply Company. We only included products rated 4.5 out of 5 or higher by at least 100 reviewers. The links are plain links: we earn nothing if you buy through them.

Four of the ten picks are ours, and they are marked "ours" wherever they appear. We did not compare our products with anyone else's, and we did not give our own products a rating. Prices and ratings change often, so check the page before you buy.
